A young nephew of an Exmouth RNLI volunteer has raised £40 for the charity by designing his own collection boxes.

Jamie Howard, aged seven, from east London, handed over the donation to Exmouth RNLI, where his uncle Neil is a volunteer tractor driver.

Jamie, and his younger brother Noah, aged five, brought along one of the collection boxes to the boathouse fore the crew to see.

Don Hodgkinson, chairman of the Exmouth lifeboat fundraising team, praised Jamie’s efforts.

He said: “We’re always impressed with the creative methods young supporters find to help our fundraising.

“This amount will be able to contribute towards supplying our crew volunteers with vital kit and training they need to help save lives at sea.

“We thank Jamie and his family for this help.”

The highlight Jamie’s visit was to see the new state-of-the-art Shannon class lifeboat, R and J Welburn. The youngster was invited to sit in the Shannon launch and recovery system driver seat, where his uncle sits when the pager goes off.
