Exmouth inshore lifeboat was launched to jet skiers off Pole Sands after an injured member of their party was dragged to safety by a kite surfer

A kite surfer dragged a jet skier to safety on Wednesday afternoon after they became injured and cold off Exmouth.

Exmouth inshore lifeboat was launched at lunchtime in heavy drizzle and poor visibility to rescue two jet skiers off Pole Sands, who had been with the casualty.

The RNLI said the two men declined help so were given safety advice by the sea safety charity.

Kevin Riley, volunteer lifeboat operations manager, urged water users to be aware of the tides and to be prepared.

He said: “We advise jet skiers and kite surfers to carry safety equipment to alert the emergency services. Mobile phones don’t always work and it would be better to use a VHF radio and carry flares.”
