WITH spring upon us, Exmouth in Bloom is stepping up its activities and its fundraising campaign.

The group has also announced its plans for 2014 – including marking the centenary of the start of World War One.

Last year the busy horticultural group – which takes great pride in its work and efforts to keep the town beautiful and to help attract visitors to the area – raised almost £1,200, and attracted 150 new members.

The money went towards funding summer and winter bedding plants, replacing old shrubs and buying plants for newly adopted areas.

One of the group’s new members was the Inner Wheel Club, which sponsored a planter in the Magnolia Centre. This has been planted with pansies in the Inner Wheel colours of blue and yellow.

For 2014, the group has been asked by the British Legion to sow poppies along the estuary cycle path to commemorate 100 years since the start of World War One.

The Royal Horticultural Society has also asked the group to plant gold flowers to celebrate 50 years of Britain in Bloom. The RHS has given the group some sunflower seeds to plant and to hold a tallest sunflower contest.

Exmouth in Bloom is hoping that all its friends will renew their membership in the near future so its work can continue.

It is also looking for new members to help raise more funds towards the cost of flower displays and hanging baskets in and around Exmouth.

The annual fee is £5 (personal membership) and £10 (business, group or organisation membership). This includes a card and regular updates throughout the year.

Application forms are available from Exmouth Town Hall, Exmouth Library and Kings Garden and Leisure Centre. You can also download forms from the group’s website at
