A club for disabled adults is celebrating receiving a cash boost to help pay for a specialist minibus for its members.

Devon county councillors Christine Channon, Jeff Trail and Richard Scott donated £1500 from the locality budget to Exmouth Gateway to help fund the charity’s first multi-adaptable minibus.

Emma Baldwin, of Exmouth Gateway, said: “With a very kind donation like this, it will help us to get our minibus sooner, which will not only help out the members of Exmouth Gateway and their football team, Exmouth Tigers, but also other charities around Exmouth.”

The charity, founded in 1989, is entirely self-funded and one of the largest clubs in the South West for learning-disabled adults: it has more than 120 members.

The group aims to help its members develop social and independence skills and make new friends in safe surroundings.

Exmouth Gateway meets every Monday (including most Bank Holidays) at Exmouth Rugby Club. Doors open at 6:30pm with activities from 7pm to 9pm. See www.exmouthgateway.co.uk
