Celebrating the town’s strengths is crucial to the Exmouth Business Awards – and the introduction of this year’s brand new category for Best Hair & beauty Business of the Year is no exception.

The Beauty Room, in Exmouth, is sponsoring the new category and Becky Bissett, who runs the salon with her ex-husband Si, said it felt ‘amazing’ to be involved.

She said: “The business awards gets bigger and better each year; it feels amazing for our industry to have a dedicated category.

“There are some highly recognised worldwide-known talents here in Exmouth, so it’s great to showcase these in their own right.”

Becky says there is ‘a great support network between local businesses’ in Exmouth’s hair and beauty sector, with plentiful opportunities for networking.

And – although a difficult task, she explained what she thought judges might look for in a winner.

“We feel, to win this category, the salon should go above and beyond just a haircut or beauty treatment.

“People can quite often visit you with very little self confidence in their appearance and you have an opportunity to make them feel better about themselves,” said Becky.

Chairman of Exmouth Chamber of Commerce, Ian MacQueen, said creating the new category was a response to the large volume of applications from the sector in previous years.

The first ever finalists for this category are: Reflexetions Hair & Beauty, I.Nova Studios and Summer and Lola.

Mr MacQueen said they were nominated for showing outstanding ‘innovation, professionalism and passion’ in their approach to hair and beauty.

He added: “We are excited by the nominees in this category and are looking forward to some glamorous outfits on the night!”

The Exmouth Business Awards 2018 are being held on Friday, May 18, at Ocean.

A drinks reception will begin at 6.00pm, followed by the call to table at 7.10pm and guests sitting down at 7.30pm.

Tickets are available to buy now, at Exmouth Pavilion, until May 12.
