TWO of Exmouth’s Running Belles are off to the capital this weekend as they tackle their biggest challenge to date – the London Marathon.

The plucky pair are running for Children with Cancer UK. They’ve already raised £3,380 for the charity, and hope to raise more before Sunday’s 26-mile race.

Lorraine Kirby, 47, and her friend Cally Rowland, 49, both of Trinfield Avenue, Exmouth, are two of the leaders of the women’s running group, Exmouth Running Belles.

“We’ve done three months’ training, in between fundraising,” said Lorraine.

“It’s been hard to get in 20 miles’ running round Exmouth, but we’ve managed to do it.”

Their chosen charity is important to them.

“We know a couple of people that have leukaemia and we also ran for them a few years ago,” said Lorraine. “And they’ve both been encouraging us for the London Marathon.”

Were they looking forward to the event?

“Well we’ve done all the training and all the fundraising,” said Lorraine. “It’s just the 26 miles now at the end of it that we’ve got to do!”
