Enhancing Topsham Award nominations sought and other news

The Topsham Society is again looking for nominations for its Enhancing Topsham Award. Read this and more.

BROOKE COFFEE: Working animal charity The Brooke’s Topsham Supporters Group is holding its autumn coffee morning and sale.

The event will take place on the first floor of Matthews Hall on October 27, between 10am and noon.

Christmas cards, refreshments, bring and buy, bric-a-brac, books and cakes will be available, and a grand draw will also be held.

TOPSHAM AWARD: The Topsham Society is again looking for nominations for its Enhancing Topsham Award.

The award is made every year for new or renovated buildings or landscape works in the town, with this year’s award going to the Topsham Art Room.

Nominations for the 2013 award must be submitted by December 7, by emailing Elizabeth Hubbick at dandehubbick@btinternet.com.

The winner will then be announced in the New Year.

CHARITY OPEN DAY: Topsham charity Devon in Sight is holding an open day at its Station House resource centre in Holman Way.

The event takes place on October 25 between 10am and 2pm, and is a chance to find out more about the charity’s services and facilities. Teas and coffees will be available.

VOTE: Topsham residents are being encouraged to vote in the upcoming police and crime commissioner elections by Exeter City Council.

The elections take place on November 15, and voters need to have registered by October 31.

Registration and postal vote forms are available by calling 01392 265141, and are also available to fill in online at www.exeter.gov.uk.

TOPSHAM ROCK: The final lunchtime lecture of the season is taking place at Topsham Museum.

It will feature geologist Michael Barr, who will talk about the types of rock used in buildings in Topsham.

It takes place on October 31. Doors open at 11am for an 11.30am start, and soup and crusty bread will be available.

MEMBERS PLEASE: The revamped Topsham Community Association has launched an appeal for new members.

The association became a limited company on September 1, but still has the same duties of promoting Topsham and running Matthews Hall.

Membership of the company is free, with no share purchase needed, and open to anyone aged 16 or older who lives or works in Topsham.

An application form is available from Sue Wilkinson at Matthews Hall, Fore Street, Topsham, EX3 0HF.

SPOOKY: Two sessions of free Hallowe’en fun are taking place at Topsham Library.

The first event will be a drop-in colouring and craft session on October 30, between 10am and 1pm.

The second event is billed as ‘fun and spooky stories with the fairy witch’ on October 31, between 2.30pm and 3.15pm, and there will be a prize for the best Hallowe’en costume.
