Pupils at Exmouth Community College now have access to a life-saving defibrillator, thanks to a charity campaign.

Exmouth mother Helen Buck set up Defibz4kidz with the aim of getting a defibrillator into every school in the town, after discovering twelve pupils die in schools every week nationwide from heart related problems.

Having already got a defibrillator for Withycombe Primary School, the campaign has now secured a device for the community college thanks to a donation from Digita Software.

As well as paying for the defibrillator, the company is also paying for eight members of staff to be trained to use it. Digita’s managing director Andrew Flanagan said: “We are pleased to support Helen’s campaign to introduce defibrillators into as many schools as possible.”

Helen said: “It is important that local businesses see the value of these life-saving machines for every school. There are no prior symptoms; it could be caused from anything, from a choke to a blow on the heart. The more machines we install, and the more people we train, the more young lives we can help to save.”
