A student from Budleigh is celebrating after being given the chance to visit some of the top universities in the United States.

Isabella Brown, 17, who attends Colyton Grammar School, has been selected by the Sutton Trust to spend a week in Boston at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), attending university fairs, visiting Harvard and Yale universities and learning more about what is involved in studying stateside.

With more than 2,000 people applying, Isabella first made it through to the finalists’ weekend where 200 students received talks, including one from the US ambassador.

Having then being selected for the final 175, Isabella also received tutoring for the American College Testing exam which she will sit this June.

Isabella said: “I am delighted to have been selected for the Sutton Trust US Programme, and am excited about the prospect of visiting and applying to US universities.”
