Clever Trevor gets degree

A retired engineer from Budleigh has proved it’s never too late to achieve your dreams after receiving a degree in history from the Open University.
Commander Trevor Waddington OBE, 71, spent 35 years in the Royal Navy, before going on to start his own business mending antique clocks.
Expecting business to decline at the onset of the recession, he decided to pursue his life-long interest in history by studying for a degree in the subject.
He said: “Ironically business did not decline but, having started my academic studies, I was hooked and driven to complete the course in 5 years.
“Two years ago I took retirement and my wife and I moved to Budleigh.
“As an 11-plus ‘failure’ of the 1950s I have been motivated to prove myself ever since. The achievement of an Open University degree at the age of 71 is therefore the realisation of a life-long dream.”
