A group of local traders has announced it will be supporting an East Devon-based eye charity during the next 12 months.

The East Devon Business Initiative (EDBI) has chosen See the Future as its charity of the year for 2014.

The charity, set up by Leanne Greengrass after her mother Jacqueline was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer following a routine eye exam, raises money for research into eye conditions which can lead to sight loss.

Exmouth businessman and EDBI chairman Pete Chubb said: “Members this year voted overwhelmingly to support See the Future after meeting Leanne and hearing her story. We were touched by her dedication and determination to raise awareness of sight conditions and raise money to do something to help.”

Leanne, whose father John is an EDBI member, said: “When I heard we had been chosen by the EDBI as their charity of the year I was absolutely thrilled.

“I know that they have raised thousands of pounds for their chosen charities over recent years, and I hope together we can raise a lot of vital funds to support the work of See the Future.”

The charity and EDBI are already talking about co-operating on events, including See the Future’s summer ball, planned for Woodbury Park in September.
