The MET Office has issued a yellow warning for snow in East Devon at the weekend.

The MET Office is warning of possible snow in East Devon this weekend.

A yellow warning for snow has been put in place for the Exmouth, Budleigh, Sidmouth and Honiton areas from 00.05am on Friday (December 8) until 6pm on Saturday (December 9).

However, Seaton, Axminster, Beer and Branscombe are outside the warning area.

According to the MET Office, show showers are expected across western England on Friday with between two and five centimetres of snow likely for some and between 10 and 20 centimetres on higher ground.

Icy surfaces are also likely to be an additional hazard, especially overnight. Some roads and railways are likely to be affected with longer journey times.

The MET Office is also warning of some icy patches on untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths.

A MET Office chief forecaster said: “During winter weather, which brings snow showers, it is not uncommon for snow amounts to vary considerably across short distances.

“On Friday and Saturday, the snow showers could lead to snow accumulations which vary markedly across the warning area.”

Update: The MET Office has now issued a yellow warning for wind on Sunday.

According the the MET Office, gusts of up to 70 miles per hour could hit ‘exposed coastal communities’ on Sunday between 4am and 7pm.

The MET Office says a ‘stong spell’ of winds is expected with some short-term loss of power possible.

There could also be some delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges.

Coastal areas could be subjected to spray and large waves.
