TORY AGM: The AGM of the Budleigh Salterton Branch of the Conservative Party is being held at the Peter Hall on Saturday, February 23, at 11am.

Members are invited to vote for committee appointments and there will be the chance to listen to the annual reports from county and district councillors.

Councillor John Hart, leader of Devon County Council, will be guest speaker.

Refreshments will be served at the end of the meeting.

FOOTPATHS CHAMPION: A ‘keen’ walker is needed to become the East Budleigh’s paths and rights of way champion.

It follows the previous representative for the parish council standing down.

The Parish Paths Partnerships Scheme is a county council initiative to ensure that the entire rights of way network is legally defined, properly maintained and well publicised.

The scheme encourages community involvement and enjoyment of public rights of way.

Devon County Council is working in partnership with parish/town councils, landowners and local voluntary groups.

The main aim is to improve the condition of the local rights of way and keep them open and used properly.

County councillor Christine Channon said: “It’s a very important job.

“The county council agrees to a sum of money so the parish can control your public rights of way.

“It is a really good for a parish and the sort of thing that needs a keen walker.”

For more information contact parish clerk Judith Lumsden on: 01395 445080.

SECOND ‘UPLIFTING’ EDITION: An ‘uplifting’ book written by a Budleigh Salterton author has proved so popular with reading groups around the country a second edition has been printed.

Bring Down The Moon by Eva Le Bon is a family saga and has been revised.

Eva, a professional psychotherapist, says that the book has also been used for ‘biblio-therapy’, and a range of additional notes have been added.

DEVELOPER CASH: A total of £3,698 is available to East Budleigh from developers.

The pot of cash, called Section 106 money, is paid by developers to the district council following new developments to mitigate for loss of amenities like open space.

Most parish councillors want to use this money instead of waiting for additional funds.

However, parish councillors first want a second meeting with East Devon District Council’s 106 officer, Sulina Tullack, to clarify when the money would be available and what the restrictions for its use would be.
