The unmanned vessel was returned to the Topsham Sailing Club, where it was handed over to its owner.
An RNLI spokeswoman said: “The volunteer crew located the vessel and confirmed it was unmanned and no-one was in the water.
“The owner was informed by the coastguard and the crew towed the yawl back to Topsham Sailing Club to hand it over to him.”

BIG BOOST FOR RNLI: Exmouth RNLI is celebrating donations totalling more than £1,000 to help fund the launch and recovery vehicle for the town’s new Shannon-class lifeboat.
Exe Sailing Club members handed over a cheque for £666 from funds raised throughout the year when the group held its recent wine and cheese evening, in aid of the charity.
A further £290 was raised on the night from a raffle and admission, while selling official merchandise raised almost an extra £200.
A coffee morning held in Budleigh Salterton for the RNLI raised £471 for the cause.
The new lifeboat is expected in Exmouth at the end of 2013.
