Two brothers-in-law are gearing up for a 900-mile cycling charity challenge which is truly against the clock – as they have just one week off work to complete it.

Doug Millar, 33 and Nick James, 40, from Colaton Raleigh and East Budleigh, will begin their ride from John O’Groats in Scotland to Land’s End in Cornwall on the morning of Saturday, June 28.

The pair are doing the cycle in aid of Sidmouth Living with Cancer Support Group, a charity Doug fundraised for last year when he rode to Morocco and back on a bicycle.

He said: “Sidmouth Living with Cancer is a local charity which has a real effect on local people who are suffering with cancer.

“I know of people who the charity has helped.”

The charity challenge will be a tough ride for the pair, as the usual route usually takes ten or so days to finish.

Doug and Nick have been cycling regularly to make sure they are at peak fitness for the journey, and will be joined by Doug’s parents driving a campervan.

“We have done lots of training,” said Doug. “Because we only have a week off work, we will have to cycle 120 miles a day.

“It will be a bit of a challenge but we have no choice. We wanted it to be a physical challenge.

“My parents will be supporting us and cooking our meals so we can spend most of the time on the road.”

So far, the pair have raised nearly £2,000 and Doug hopes to raise as much as possible.
