Helen Tribble, Exmouth Open Door Centre projects director, said: “Christmas is a wonderful time for those who have family and friends to spend it with, or who can afford to buy the turkey, but if you find it a difficult time, if you’re on your own this Christmas or if it’s a struggle financially, we want to invite you to join us at Open Door.

The festive hand of friendship has again been extended from Exmouth to all who face spending Christmas day alone.

Every year volunteers at the Open Door Centre, in Church Street, serve up a free Christmas dinner with all the trimmings plus a day of entertainment to those who cannot afford the festivities, and to anyone facing Christmas day alone.

Helen Tribble, Open Door Centre projects director, said: “Christmas is a wonderful time for those who have family and friends to spend it with, or who can afford to buy the turkey, but if you find it a difficult time, if you’re on your own this Christmas or if it’s a struggle financially, we want to invite you to join us at Open Door.

“It is always a really special day, to be altogether enjoying great food and company and you’d be very welcome.

“Whether you’ve never been before, or you’ve been coming to us for years, we’d love to see you.”

Helen said families and Open Door regulars were among the visitors who in previous years have enjoyed spending the festive day together.

She urged people and families unable to afford Christmas, those struggling with the festive season, or anyone who faced spending the day alone, to join in with Open Door’s free food, festivities and company. She hoped those less familiar with the charity would enjoy the fun at Open Door.

Christmas Day at Exmouth Open Door Centre starts at 11.30am on Monday, December 25, with candle lighting for absent loved ones.

Doors open for the meal at 11.45am. There will be carol singing and presents, followed by a three course Christmas dinner including a soup starter, turkey with all the trimmings and ending with Christmas pudding, all free of charge.

After lunch there will be time to chat, play a board game, or sit and relax.

The doors close at 3pm.

If you would like to attend, pop into The Open Door Centre, Church Street, on either Monday, Wednesday or Friday, between 9.30am and 3pm, to sign up, or call 01395 224218.
