Pensioner Heather Friend, from Exmouth, spotted an unusual sight when she walked her pet, Teddy, on the beach; an almost lifesize toy reindeer surrounded by beer bottles.

A runaway reindeer found surrounded by beer bottles on Exmouth beach by a dog walking pensioner has been reunited with its owner.

Dog walker Heather Friend, aged 65, of Morton Road, Exmouth, spotted the unusual sight as she walked her pet, Teddy, near the love boat seats.

The festive reindeer decoration, called Butch, standing around five feet tall, had been on display at The Pavilion box office before it disappeared and spent the night on the beach.

Pavilion duty manager Jordan Hamilton said Butch had been found next to a pile of empty bottles and a sleeping bag, and clearly enjoyed a ‘good night’.

“He was a bit cold and a bit sandy, but otherwise he was fine,” he said.

Pensioner Heather said: “I am always finding stuff on the beach but I have never seen anything like this before; at first I thought it was a person. It was almost the same height as me.”
