Exmouth RNLI stretchered a diabetic man to safety after he suffered sickness and chest pains at sea

A diabetic man suffering from chest pains was rescued from a fishing boat by Exmouth RNLI.

The all-weather lifeboat was launched on Sunday morning following reports a 22-year-old diabetic man had chest pains and was vomiting onboard a commercial fishing boat some 11 miles east off Straight Point, at Lyme Bay.

After an immediate evacuation was ordered, volunteer lifeboat man James Searle, a paramedic, took specialist equipment on board, assessed the casualty and arranged for him to be stretchered to safety.

Tim Mock, Exmouth RNLI coxswain, said: “The casualty was stabilised, kept comfortable and hydrated for the trip back to Exmouth marina where he was handed over to a waiting ambulance.”
