Two Exmouth dentists are celebrating after completing a nine-day cycle ride for charity.

David Ward and Stephen Green, of Bicton Place Dental Practice, joined 24 other dentists from across the UK on the ride from John O’Groats to Land’s End – a distance of nearly 900 miles.

They took on the challenge, organised by dental payment plan specialist Denplan, to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support, and have raised more than £5,500.

David, aged 50, who lives in East Budleigh, said: “We are both keen cyclists and great admirers of Macmillan Cancer Support but training for and undertaking this challenge was hard.

“I am hugely relieved that we made it. Some days were really testing, especially the one where we reached Devon and its impressive hills!

“But each day brought us nearer the finish and it was certainly a fascinating way to see much of our country.

“Support along the way was incredible and to reach the finish and see our families and friends waiting to cheer us over the line after nine full days of cycling was extremely emotional.”

Stephen said: “Patients have been overwhelmingly generous with their encouragement and we are so very grateful to them for all their moral support and sponsorship.

“The nine days were a real challenge but we’re relieved we’ve done it and are absolutely delighted with the amount that has been raised for Macmillan – such a brilliant charity that provides vital medical, emotional, practical and financial support to so many families just when they need it most.”
