Deck Restaurant reopens at Ocean on Good Friday

With the days counting down to the official reopening on Good Friday, March 30, plans are well in hand for the big event at Ocean, in Exmouth.

Head chef James Wragg, who has been taken on to develop the restaurant as a destination venue, has been fine tuning the menu over recent weeks to create an offer that appeals to a wide range of tastes.

James is looking to offer good quality food, served well, using fresh, local ingredients.

He said: “There is some brilliant produce available in this area, such as Exmouth Mussels and Green Valley Cyder.

“Exmouth needs more destination restaurants to bring people into the town and that is what I am aiming to develop at Ocean Deck.

“I want people to be able to enjoy the view, the drink and the food.”

And what a view the restaurant has. The clientele will have the chance to look out over the Exe estuary or out to sea as they enjoy the seasonal choices on offer.

James Wragg, 32, who lives in Exmouth, is aiming high when it comes to creating a new menu to help re-launch what is on offer at the venue.

He will be offering a range of good quality options, including daily specials.

He is aiming to offer main meals at a cost of between £10 and £17, with a three-course meal in the region of £30.

He said: “We intend to offer a high quality experience, in a relaxed atmosphere – good quality food and good service.”

James has built up his experience at the independent South Beach restaurant, where he was sous chef, as well as Las Iguanas, which has outlets across the country, and Stable, which is a smaller chain.

In each role he has learned new skills and he said his new position will allow him to bring all his experiences together to benefit the customers.

Ocean Deck will continue to offer a daytime menu but will also be providing dinner time menu for the evening and its development will respond to the demand of customers.

In line with its name, the décor at Ocean Deck focuses strongly on the maritime world, both in terms of the art around the walls and in the colour scheme and architectural forms.

James said: “I am really excited about this. Exmouth needs its own destination venues.

“I want it to be relaxed and cool – so if you are thinking about going out in Exmouth, you would choose to go to the Deck Restaurant and you would know that you would be getting a good meal.”

Open daily from 10am until 5pm with longer opening hours on selected days:

Wednesday 6pm until 11pm
Thursday 6pm until 11pm
Friday 6pm until 11pm
Saturday 6pm until 11pm
