An Exmouth housekeeping supervisor has received another nomination for this year’s Healthcare Hero Awards in recognition of his hard work and support he provides to colleagues.

Dave Baxter, who works at Exmouth and Exeter Community Hospitals, was nominated by HR manager Majorie Mullins.

She said: “David consistently provides a high level of support to his team members as well as his manager. David is extremely flexible and covers other areas as and when required. He is always polite and courteous and well balanced in his opinions. He ensures that his team consistently provides a high standard of cleanliness at the hospitals he is responsible for.”

Community nurse Harriet Nicholls, who works at Ottery St Mary Hospital, has captured the hearts of patients and their families - earning her two more nominations.

She was nominated by Jim Hanson, of Ottery St Mary, who added: “I would like to nominate Harriet for the award as she nursed my wife Enid through the closing stages of her life. She helped our family cope with a very distressing illness and was always there for us with kindness and understanding. Thank you Harriet – you are a wonderful lady.”

The third nomination came from Bill and June Broadley, also of Ottery St Mary, who said: “Harriet has been looking after my husband for several months now. He has ulcers on both legs. Thanks to Harriet and the Ottery St Mary team, they have almost healed. We both absolutely agree with everything Mrs Wright from Whimple has said.”

There is still time to send in your nomination by emailing or writing to the Journal with your stories of how the trust’s staff have provided exceptional care and support to you or your family.

Send nominations to reporter Katy Griffin at or write to: Archant South West, Fair Oak Close, Exeter Airport Business Park, Clyst Honiton EX5 2UL. The deadline for nominations is midnight on Tuesday, December 31.

The Journal is running the Healthcare Hero Awards in conjunction with the Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust.

Readers are invited to nominate any member of the trust’s staff - no matter what their job role - who they feel deserves to be recognised and rewarded.

Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust manages all the community hospitals in East Devon and its community nursing and therapy teams care for people in their own homes throughout the area.
