Exmouth RNLI volunteers will be cycling around the Exe estuary wearing full lifeboat kit at the end of the month.

The six-strong group will cycle from Dawlish to Exmouth on January 20, as part of the charity’s SOS Day fundraising event.

The cyclists are raising cash for the launch and recovery equipment for the new Shannon lifeboat, due to arrive in Exmouth in 2014.

The group, made up of helmsman Mark Champion, plus crew volunteers Steve Satchell, Paul Fox, Hedley Saunders, David Preece and Lee Manning, is hoping people will cheer them on en-route while giving generously to the cause.

The ride sets off from Dawlish football club at 10.30am, calling at Starcross fishing club, plus Topsham, Lympstone and Exmouth sailing clubs.

The cyclists hope to arrive at Exmouth lifeboat station at around 3pm, where refreshments for all will be available to those cheering the ride home.

RNLI sea safety officer Peter Williams will be holding a lifejacket and advice clinic at Darts Farm, where the cyclists are expected for lunch.
