EXMOUTH’S RNLI’s new coxswain ‘can’t wait’ for the arrival of the station’s new lifeboat and accompanying Supacat launching system.

He says the new vessel will ‘revolutionise’ the station’s work and it will save more lives.

And he says it’s a tremendous honour to be the new lifeboat’s first coxswain at Exmouth RNLI.

The Shannon-class vessel, which has been part-funded by the Exmouth community, is currently undergoing sea trials. These will determine if the craft needs any final adjustments before entering service.

Next week’s Journal will include a photo-spread showing the new lifeboat under construction and going through its paces in the water.

“We can’t wait for the new lifeboat to arrive,” said Steve Hockings-Thompson, who was appointed Exmouth RNLI coxswain on Christmas Day.

“It’s going to revolutionise our work and – because it’s so much faster and more manoeuvrable than our current lifeboat – it will save many more lives. It’s a tremendous honour to be the new vessel’s first coxswain at Exmouth RNLI.”

Steve’s comments have been echoed by Kevin Riley MBE, Exmouth RNLI lifeboat operations manager.

“The crew are all eagerly awaiting the new lifeboat in the not too distant future, with all the training and skills involved, as are shore-crew volunteers with the Supacat launching system,” said Kevin. “This will truly make Exmouth RNLI complete with a 21st-century lifeboat in a 21st-century station.”

You can still give money to Exmouth RNLI to launch its new lifeboat. Donate £5 by texting RNLI Exmouth to 70300, or call 0845 122 6999.
