The Plough and Share Credit Union is offering a cash boost to new members, thanks to the prosecution of loan sharks.
The union has been teaming up with Trading Standards’ Illegal Lending Team and East Devon District Council, to educate people about loan sharks, and to offer them money that has come from the proceeds of bringing loan sharks to justice.
Having recruited 20 new members at Exmouth Farmers’ Market in December, the union is now able to offer 20 more new members the chance to receive £30 from the scheme, if they keep saving for 12 weeks.
Plough and Share’s Maureen Loman said: “It is always good to think that we take money from the bad guys to do some good in the community.”
New members can join Plough and Share on any Wednesday between 2pm and 4pm at Exmouth Town Hall, or at the Children’s Centre in Egremont Road on Fridays between 10am and noon.
