The amount of cash East Devon will receive from the county council for local projects is being doubled.

The amount of cash East Devon will receive from the county council for local projects is being doubled.

They have voted to devolve £600,000 to communities to kick start local initiatives for 2012/13.

In the current financial year, the eight county committees in each of Devon’s districts received £300,000.

Parish and town councils will also have a greater role in deciding how to spend it.

An example is the support given to parishes to fund volunteer snow wardens.

Council leader John Hart said: “We can help local communities to help themselves. We can devolve cash so they can use it to back local initiatives, kick start local projects and support community action.

“I want to go even further this year and make the decision-making process even more local.”

The cash will be allocated on the basis of £1 for every registered elector.
