Councillors’ request to talk about cuts refused by bosses

County bosses orchestrating cuts to a series of services have refused an invitation to talk to town councillors.
Town clerk Colin Poole invited county councillor Stuart Barker to answer questions about cuts to day care services and the proposed closure of dementia care home Davey Court.
Councillor Stuart Barker said: “Unfortunately, I am not able to attend your meeting as it occurs during the consultation and decision period.
“We have published a schedule of consultation events and, as they form part of the process to avoid legal challenge, it isn’t possible to meet outside of those events.
“Others would not have had the same opportunity. Officers will be making recommendations to me when they have considered the issues and information raised.
“When the process has ended and decisions made I would be happy to attend a meeting.”
