Topsham residents are set for slightly higher council tax bills, after Exeter City Council’s executive voted to increase them. Read this and more.

AWARD: Nominations close today (Friday) for the Topsham Society’s Enhancing Topsham Award.

The award is made every year for new or renovated buildings or landscape works in the town.

NOMINATIONS: The Topsham School has a vacancy for a local authority governor.

The school would welcome applications from members of the local community who could bring professional skills and knowledge to the governors.

AGREED: Plans to extend a Topsham home have been approved by Exeter City Council.

The plan is to build a first-floor rear extension and increase the ground-floor roof height at 40 Greatwood Terrace.

FESTIVE EVENT: The Topsham Amateur Dramatic Society is inviting people to join it once again for ‘Carols in the Courtyard’.

The event takes place in the courtyard of Reka Dom in The Strand next Wednesday, December 19, at 7.30pm.

Everyone is welcome to go along, join in the singing and enjoy a mince pie and other refreshments.

EYES DOWN: The latest evening of Topsham Town Fayre bingo is being held at Matthews Hall this Tuesday (December 18).

Doors open at 6.30pm for eyes down at 7.30pm. There will be cash prizes and a raffle, and all proceeds will go to Fayre funds.

DISPLAY: An art exhibition and sale is being held at Matthews Hall.

Nicholas Day will be exhibiting original paintings and prints this Saturday, between 9am and 1pm.

TAX RISE: Topsham residents are set for slightly higher council tax bills, after Exeter City Council’s executive voted to increase them.

The council is putting forward a rise of two per cent, which will lead to a £96,000 increase in revenue.

The council says the increase would work out at around five pence extra per week for most homes.

EXTENSION: Plans have been submitted to extend a Topsham home.

The scheme is for a single storey rear extension to be built at 28 Greatwood Terrace. Exeter City Council will now consider the plan.

TIME TO READ: Topsham Library has published its Christmas opening hours.

The library will be closed from Christmas Eve, reopening as normal on Saturday, December 29, and will then be closed on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, before reopening as normal on Thursday, January 3 – being closed as usual on the Wednesday.

FUNDRAISER: St Margaret’s Church is holding its Christmas Fayre this Saturday between 10am and noon.

A range of stalls will be available, and Father Christmas will be there. Proceeds will go to the church and the mission work it supports.
