The proposal, put forward by Littleham councillors instead of a previous suggestion of 190 homes, will be included as a supplementary item to the council’s submission.

Councillors said that building 350 homes on the site would be acceptable “if, and only if” their terms were met, including reduced traffic congestion, a 12-acre public space on Donkey Hill; new or improved community facilities, maintained farming viability and improvements to the Pankhurst Industrial Estate.

Councillors also said that they would expect developer Clinton Devon Estates to provide a substantial proportion of affordable homes, along with landscape improvements, funding for Littleham Primary School, and improvements identified by the community.

Cllr Mark Williamson said: “This is not a planning application, it’s a strategic land application. What we’re trying to do here is ensure that if a 350-home planning application saw the light of day it would bring community benefits.”

Response to the plan will now be considered by East Devon District Council.

  • Finally, its great to see local people and local councillors actually agreeing with what Clinton Devon Estates is trying to do for the local community. Littleham needs regeneration and that starts with asking what the local area needs. CDE a bright and innovative idea. well done. Local jobs and local homes for local people not OAP dwellings...
