Tesco has been criticised for the condition of the site adjacent to its Salterton Road store.
The supermarket chain gained planning permission to extend the store on to the site in 2010, and it was then fenced off, with the Glenorchy United Reformed Church, which occupied the site, being demolished.
However, since then, construction on an extended store has not started, and at a recent town council meeting Councillor Steve Wragg called on Tesco to get on with construction, or at least make the site look a bit more attractive.
Councillor Steve Wragg said: “Tesco have had permission for some time. It looks pretty unsightly. Can they give us any idea when they are going to start?
“It is all looking very temporary, and has been like that for a couple of years now.”
In response, a Tesco spokesman said: “We continue to consider timescales for the project and will keep the community updated.
“In the meantime, we continue to serve customers from our existing store and will make our best efforts to keep the site tidy and maintained.”
The spokesman added that work was recently carried out to tidy some vegetation on the site.
