Grannynet, the community website for grandmothers, would like grannies to sit down with their grandchildren and think about what the most important things about Christmas are. It may be the religious message, it may be a time to help others. It could be making the Christmas pudding or the smell of a real Christmas tree.

Christmas has become so much more commercial over the last 50 years or so, when many televisions were still black and white and not every home even had one! Hours could be spent making homemade Christmas paper chains and playing board games rather than computer games.

Grannynet believes that you can make a difference and help today’s children understand what the true spirit of Christmas means.

It should be about celebrating with your family and creating special memories. It’s not all about big expensive presents and it doesn’t matter how big or small the gesture, it really is all about the thought that counts.

■ So, if you would like to tell us you and your grandchildren’s thoughts about what is special and important about Christmas you will find the competition details on the Grannynet website www.grannynet.co.uk.

We will pick our favourite response and the winner will receive a family ticket to see Aladdin at the Exmouth Pavillion on December 27 at 2pm . Closing date is November 30.

Good luck!
