Exmouth detectives are giving a man who ‘found’ £50 in a town cash point the chance to own up and come forward.

Police say that they have CCTV footage of a woman on Monday, February 13, at 5.30pm, using the Tesco Express cash point in Rolle Street.

The woman put in her card and withdrew £50 – but she walks away from the machine leaving her cash still in the slot.

After a few seconds a white male spots the cash and takes it from the machine.

PC Stephen Lemon of Exmouth CID said: “He walks a few metres before stopping to talk to a woman in a pink coat.

“He appears to be unsure of what to do with the new found cash.

“After a minute or so he makes the wrong decision and walks off with the money.”

PC Lemon says he has CCTV covering the incident, showing both the man and the woman in the pink coat.

The film has been sent away for stills to be taken from the footage, but he wants to give the thief a chance to come forward – and if he doesn’t the man’s image will go in next week’s paper.

He adds: “I intend to put these stills in the paper asking for the public’s assistance in identifying this male.

“I would like this male to make contact with me at Exmouth Police Station.”
