The Mayor of Budleigh Salterton, Courtney Richards, has expressed concern about the use of a property for holiday letting. Read this and more.

LETTING CONCERNS: The Mayor of Budleigh Salterton, Courtney Richards, has expressed concern about the use of a property for holiday letting.

Number 37 Granary Lane received planning permission in 2010 for an extension featuring a garage and office space.

However, the office space is apparently being let out as a holiday flat, and the owners have been sent correspondence by planning officers, as they would need to apply for a change of use.

Councillor Richards said that as the original plans had simply been marked “office space”, the town council’s planning committee would need to see more detailed plans.

He said: “It’s a long way from four walls and an office to a flat that can be lived in.”

FENCE BACKED: Plans to build a boundary fence with a trellis at a Budleigh home have been supported by Budleigh Salterton Town Council.

The plan concerns 1 Copplestone Road.

At a planning meeting this week, Councillor Darren Harrison said: “I support the application. That area is quite often used as a dog toilet, and this will remove that from being an eyesore.”

Although planning chairman Dick Mitchell said he had concerns that the plan would be detrimental to the street scene, councillors voted to support it.

East Devon District Council will now make the final decision.

CONCERT FUNDS: East Budleigh Church has announced that it has received £1,022 after staging a Devon Voices Christmas Concert in December.

The church said it wanted to thank the choir, and all who helped make the event a success.

WALL ‘CAN STAY’: Budleigh Salterton Town Council has backed the retention of a boundary wall and fence at a home in the town.

The plan concerns 7 Meadow Road, and will now be considered by East Devon District Council, which will make the final decision.

ROOF BACKED: Plans to make changes to a Budleigh home have been supported by town councillors.

The plan is for a new pitched roof over a garage and a front infill extension at 16 Northview Road.

East Devon District Council will now rule on the plans.

PLAN APPROVED: Plans to build a recreation room on top of a garage at a Budleigh Salterton home have been approved by East Devon District Council.

The proposed scheme is for 25A Northview Road.

SERVICE: St Peter’s Church’s marriage celebration and renewal service is taking place this Sunday at 3pm.

It is for local married couples, who will be able to renew their promises to one another, with specially chosen music and hymns.

This will be followed by tea in the Peter Hall.
