CHAMBER THANKS: The chairman of the Budleigh Salterton Chamber of Commerce has thanked everybody who has contributed towards a ‘successful’ 2012.
A jumble sale early in the year provided the funds for a Diamond Jubilee Picnic on the Green and free entertainment for the children with the annual fun run going ahead the following week despite torrential rain.
The chamber was instrumental in bringing the first ever French Market to the town
The first dinner dance for several years was held at the East Devon Golf Club and proved very popular in October.
While the Light up Budleigh Show, organised by Simon Blisset in November, raised more funds for the Christmas Lights Appeal.
Late-night shopping on December 7, proved as popular as ever with choirs leading the singing of carols in the street and the new lights on display in the town.
Chairman Christine Bentley said: “The town has looked magnificent this year, with all the bunting and flags up followed by the best display of Christmas Lights to date,
“The committee above all want to thank all the donors who have made it possible to have so many new Christmas lights this year.
“The appeal will continue as there are still some new lights required and maintenance along with the cost of erecting them is always a factor to be considered.
“The chamber look forward to another year of prosperity for businesses and the continuing of the community spirit which has been so marked this year.”
