An annual old age pensioners’ lunch in Budleigh Salterton has been hailed as one of the best by organisers.

Every year the Lions Club of Budleigh Salterton arranges for elderly residents to have a free Christmas meal cooked by club members and their wives.

This year, more than 100 folk were crammed into the Public Hall, Station Road, to enjoy a turkey roast dinner with all the trimmings.

Diners also enjoyed a glass of cherry as a welcome, mince pies and a glass of wine to go with their meal.

The dinner entertainment was provided by the Budleigh Salterton Ladies Choir which also helped guests take part in some carol singing.

Lion Alan Lowe called the invite-only event ‘outstanding’ and said this year’s meal was enjoyed by 40 new guests.

He said: “The atmosphere was electric.

“The town supports us through the year and we like to show that support back.”
