Budleigh businesses warned about £20 fake notes

The police are warning businesses in the Budleigh Salterton area – and around East Devon – to keep their eyes peeled for fake £20 bank notes that are circulating in the region.

The warning follows instances where the counterfeit notes – which are of poor quality and appear to be colour photocopies – have been used as payment in shops and to pay for taxis.

If you are passed any counterfeit notes – and the offender/s are still the area at the time – the police ask you to call 999, quoting CR/15397/18.

Members of Budleigh Salterton and District Chamber of Commerce were forwarded details of the police warning late last week.

The original message came from Shirley Craft, community messaging officer, of Devon and Cornwall Police, via the Neighbourhood Alert website.

The warning is beginning to be issued elsewhere across East Devon, including Exmouth and Honiton – and further afield into south Devon.
