Work to strengthen a 19th Century listed bridge in East Budleigh has been proposed. Read this and more.

FISH WEEK: Otterton Mill will celebrate local produce with a Seafood Week, running from Monday, August 20, to Sunday, August 26.

The Mill’s award-winning cafe-restaurant will run a special menu all week showcasing locally sourced fish and shellfish.

Mill co-owner Caroline Spiller said “The Mill has a long tradition of sustainable sourcing, going back over 30 years, and we are committed to celebrating the diversity of local fish stocks, and hopefully encouraging our customers to try something new.”

CROQUET: More than 50 players from all over the UK turned out to Budleigh Salterton Croquet Club’s tournament.

The players competed in over seven days of ‘serious and skilful competition’.

Club Chairman Jack Smith said: “It has been a wonderful and happy week. This is only made possible through the hard work and effort of those members who cheerfully volunteer to lend a hand.”

BRIDGE: Work to strengthen a 19th Century listed bridge in East Budleigh has been proposed.

The small single-span Oak Hill Bridge, which is made from brick, sandstone with iron railings, is on Budleigh Hill and was built around 1830-40.

It has been designated by English Heritage as Grade II Listed.

District planners will consider the planning application.
