Devon and Cornwall Police have closed off Sandy Bay beach, Exmouth, after the body of a woman was found.

Update Friday, February 23, 3.35pm: Police say the body of a woman, believed to be in her 30s, was found on a section of Exmouth beach yesterday (Thursday, February 23).

Devon and Cornwall Police say they are not treating it as suspicious and the next of kin has been informed.

Officers were called to the scene after they received reports of a woman’s body being found on Thursday morning.

Police, with the help of Exmouth Coastguard, closed off a large section of Sandy Bay Beach, next to Haven-owned Devon Cliffs Caravan Park - which is closed for the winter.

South Western Ambulance Service was also called out with two rapid response vehicles attending.

A police spokesman confirmed enquiries were underway.

A Haven spokesperson said they had been made aware of the incident and police were in contact with them.

Devon and Cornwall Police have now confirmed that the beach is no longer cordoned off.
