Exmouth has a new mayor – Councillor Bill Nash.

At a ceremony at the town hall on Monday Councillor Nash and new deputy mayor Maddie Chapman were inaugurated into their posts following a vote by their fellow councillors.

Councillors voted on party lines, with 13 backing Councillor Nash’s nomination and 12 Councillor Steve
Gazzard.

The meeting was punctuated with political squabbling, but Councillor Nash, the former manager of the NCI Exmouth and deputy chairman of the planning committee, pledged to be an ‘inclusive’ mayor.

He pointedly said: “I hope councillors will continue to listen to the people and represent them to the best of their abilities.

“I am never quite sure whether or not Exmouth Town Council is a political council or not ... I hope as chairman to try and always be fair and lead the council in a proper and correct
manner.”
