Staff at an Exmouth bank have gone to extra-oar-dinary lengths to get into the World Cup spirit and raise money for charity.

Staff at TSB in The Strand decided to ‘row to Rio’ in a day, with the aid of a rowing machine in the branch, and with each pound they raised in sponsorship counting as 20 miles rowed.

A cake sale and World Cup sweepstakes were also held, and the Friends of FORCE Cancer Charity, which the day was in aid of, sold books and handmade greeting cards.

£535 was raised – more than enough to cover the 5,626-mile distance to Rio de Janeiro.

Branch manager Derek Sowden said: “Again our customers have exceeded our expectations with their willingness to donate in support of a great cause.

“Our customers are simply brilliant, and I would like to thank them for their participation.”

Jill Fry of Friends of FORCE said she would like to thank TSB staff for their support.
