Staff at an Exmouth bank have got on their bike to raise money for research into multiple sclerosis.

Members of staff at TSB in The Strand spent a day pedalling an exercise bike in the branch, aiming to get from Calais to Sochi – the host city of the Winter Olympics.

Treating every mile on the bike as 10 miles on the map, the team achieved their target, and also spent the day selling cakes.

Their aim for the day was to raise funds to support the work of Dr Tim Harrower of the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital, who is carrying out multiple sclerosis research.

The bank was introduced to the cause by one of its customers, Bob Baker, who is a regular fundraiser for Dr Harrower’s work, as his partner Sally King has the condition.

£312.08 was raised, beating the branch’s target of £300.

Branch manager Derek Sowden said: “We had a really good day. We thought we would be hard-pressed to meet our target, but our customers were fantastically generous.”
