Art exhibition to wow visitors

Exmouth Art Group says its 68th annual exhibition, which begins this weekend, is set to be one of its best ever.

The exhibition will again be staged at the Ocean Blue complex on the seafront, but for the first time will be in the top floor Ocean Suite, allowing visitors to enjoy the art on display against the backdrop of stunning views across the seafront and Exe Estuary, and use the licensed bar and café.

A wide range of pieces will be on show, and for sale, from the more traditional to the contemporary, in a variety of media and by a group of accomplished artists.

As well as exhibiting, the artists are also up for awards, which will be judged by Woodbury artist Nick Watton.

There is also the added attraction this year of work by talented sixth form students at Exmouth Community College.

The exhibition runs from Saturday, August 23, to September 7, and in order to meet the needs of those unable to visit during the day it will have extended opening times of 11am to 8pm.

Admission is £1.

Visitors to the event will also get the chance to enter the raffle, with the first prize this year a painting by the very popular artist Helen Workman, whose paintings have, in the last two shows, been voted by visitors as their favourite piece.

A donation from proceeds of the raffle will go to local charity Homes That Smile, which supports young parents. The event also provides an opportunity for anyone who might like to become a member of the group, which always welcomes new faces, as anyone applying to join at the exhibition will be offered a special subscription rate.
