REBUILD BACKED: Town planners have backed plans to demolish and rebuild a rear boundary wall at 5 East Terrace.

Councilor Lynda Evans said: “I think that the work needs to be carried out because the wall is dangerous.”

District planners will make the final decision.

-----

FLOOD RISK: The risk of flooding at Vineyard Lane in East Budleigh may have been reduced.

New tenants in the Coach House have removed the boards which had previously been covering the drains in Vineyard Lane, allowing water to drain away safely.

-----

CHRISTMAS TREES: Some wall brackets to enable shopkeepers to mount Christmas trees on the front of their business are still available.

Speak to the chairman of the chamber of trade and commerce, Christine Bentley.

-----

CONSERVATORY BID: A bid to retain a conservatory at 92 Granary Lane has the support of the town council.

The original conservatory, at 92 Granary Lane, did not need planning permission because it was considered “permitted development”.

Councillor Alan Dent said: “The conservatory does not affect neighbours and is only 18 inches larger than the permitted development.”

District planners will make the final decision.

MARKET ‘NON’: Budleigh Salterton’s Chamber of Commerce has decided not to hold a French Market on December 20 because of concerns it would compete with local shops.

At the last meeting, chairman Christine Bentley said that the vendors of the French market, which had proved such a hit in June, were “very keen” to return to Budleigh.

However, the market is booked for the rest of the year and there were fears that holding it in the week before Christmas could create bad feeling with shopkeepers selling food and gifts.

-----

PUBLIC HALL: Several “younger members” of the community were found in the Public Hall’s kitchen without permission.

It followed a function and a door was left unlocked by a hirer.

At a recent town council meeting, town clerk Jo Vanstone said: “The hirer got a bit of a rocket.”

-----

BUS STOP: The bus stop sign in East Budleigh is now in place. A sign will also be attached asking car owners not to park in front of the bus sign.

-----

BUDLEIGH REMEMBRANCE: November 11, Armistice Day, falls on a Sunday this year so this ceremony will be combined with Remembrance Sunday.

The two-minute silence will go ahead as normal at 11am at the war memorial.

The poppy wreath-laying will begin at the war memorial at 2.15pm and will be followed at 2.50pm by the church service at St Peter’s – a little earlier than in previous years.

The Royal British Legion has purchased a new £1,500 frame for the memorial to lay wreaths – this is to stop the wreaths from blowing away in bad weather.
