The award-winning line-up for the Budleigh Jazz Festival 2013 has been announced, with tickets now on sale.

Three nights of jazz will be on offer from Friday, April 19, to Sunday, April 21.

The Friday will see both of the Devon Jazz Youth Orchestras playing big band arrangements, including those from the Count Basie Band.

On Saturday there will be an all-star line-up evening featuring trumpet and flugel horn from Bruce Adams.

Bruce has played with many famous stars of jazz, including Dick Hyman, Benny Carter and Bob Wilbur.

He appears with the Scottish Radio Orchestra and the BBC Big Band and has co-led a band with Alan Barnes.

He joins Alan Barnes, who plays alto and baritone sax, on stage, making a welcome return from last year.

Alan has played in the Humphrey Lyttleton Band and the Pizza Express Modern Jazz Sextet, and toured the USA with Bryan Ferry and Warren Vache.

In Budleigh last year he partnered tenor saxist Scott Hamilton in a memorable evening, having previously been named best instrumentalist in the 2001 and 2006 BBC Jazz Awards.

Glaswegian Jim Mullen, who was named best guitarist in the British Telecom Jazz Awards in 1994, 1996 and 2000, appears in the same set.

These artists are backed by the Craig Milverton Trio.

Craig, who lives in Exeter, was voted best British jazz pianist in 2011. He has also accepted the presidency of the Budleigh Jazz Festival following the sad death in December of Sir Richard Rodney Bennett.

On Sunday, Budleigh welcomes star jazz singer Clare Teal and her band.

Clare, who hails from Yorkshire, studied music on electronic organ and clarinet before choosing music at Wolverhampton University, where she found her voice.

In 2005 she was named British jazz vocalist of the year, and in 2006 BBC jazz vocalist of the year.

Tickets for the festival are available from Onionheart Records in Exeter Road, Exmouth, and The Card Shop Too, High Street, Budleigh Salterton.
