All creatures great and small were welcome at Holy Trinity Church’s pet blessing, held on Sunday.

Dogs of all shapes and sizes, and other companion animals, were celebrated.

The service was led by team rector Reverend James Hutchings with Reverend Harry Ching a visiting priest for Dubai and twinned Holy Trinity church.

Revd Hutchings said: “A great afternoon was enjoyed, mainly with dogs of all kinds, but also a brave cat and guinea pig.

“We gave thanks for God’s creation, expressed sorrow at where we have harmed it, and dedicated ourselves to caring for our pets and the wider creation with love and care.”

The blessing of pets and animals is often celebrated on October 4, the feast of St. Francis of Assisi, or on a Sunday near that date.

The service traditionally begins with the popular hymn, All Things Bright and Beautiful, and includes prayers and readings about animals.
