a solar farm covering up to 40 acres could be installed on land between Lympstone and Woodbury.

Renewable Energy Systems (RES) is working with the owners of Coombe Farm in Exe View Road on a plan to use part of the farm for a ground-mounted solar photovoltaic energy development.

The announcement of the scheme comes in the same week as East Devon District Council approved plans for a solar farm at Liverton Farm in Exmouth (see story on page five).

The Coombe Farm plan is currently in the early stages of development, and RES has been reaching out to parish councils to give them the chance to find out more about the scheme.

An RES spokesman said they were not yet able to confirm where exactly on the Coombe Farm site the panels would be located, but the area under consideration is said to be approximately 30 to 40 acres of low grade agricultural land.

Power generated by the panels would feed into the national grid.

The spokesman said RES hopes to have a date for a public consultation by the end of January, and should the development proceed a planning application could be submitted to East Devon District Council in the summer.

If this then receives approval, the solar farm could be installed and operational in 2015.

The scheme, which would be located in Woodbury parish, was briefly discussed by neighbouring Lympstone Parish Council on Monday, with councillors agreeing to invite a representative from RES to discuss the plan at a future meeting.
