Budleigh Lions help Seachange create new sensory garden

On Tuesday,July 4, members of the Budleigh Lions presented a cheque for £500 to Seachange to help pay for the garden. A number of the Lions have also been volunteer members of the working party clearing and preparing the ground in the community garden at Seachange.   

Katheryn Hope (Activity and Volunteer Coordinator) said: "Seachange are delighted to receive a donation of £500 from Budleigh Lions to develop a sensory garden at the Seachange Community Garden.

“The garden will provide a space for peace for those using the facilities at Seachange including the memory café and activity club, as well as the local community.

“Engagement with gardening is well known to improve health and wellbeing and the sensory garden will provide a tranquil space for people to sit and enjoy nature around them. Watch this space for news of the opening of the sensory garden by Budleigh Lions later in the year.” 

The cheque was presented by Richard Allen, President of Budleigh Salterton Lions Club, Lions Tom Miner and Willi Rehbock who have been helping with the gardening, and other members of the Lions Club.

Richard said: "We are delighted to be able to help fund the new sensory garden and be part of the team of volunteers who are carrying out the work. The environment is one of Lions International's five Global Causes and we like to support projects like this whenever we can." 

The cheque was received by Katheryn Hope (Activity and Volunteer Coordinator) and Marc Jobson (Manager) at Seachange.

Sam Tidman, Fundraising and Communications Officer said: "Thank you for your extremely kind donation of £500 in support of our Community Garden project. We are extremely grateful for your kind support and this money will go specifically towards developing our sensory garden. 

"We simply couldn't do work such as this without the support of organisations like the Budleigh Salterton Lions Club, so once again - a very heartfelt 'Thank You' from all the Seachange team."
