A PACKED timetable of events and fantastic weather ensured hundreds of festival-goers flocked to this year ’s Topsham Town Fayre.

The fayre, in its 20th year, began on a musical note with live performances from local bands.

The opening day also saw the crowning of the Topsham Queen. Emma Lee-Wilson, 14, and Princesses Abbie Thomas, 10, and Chloe White, eight.

During the week families were entertained with a car treasure hunt and fun run, whilst green-fingered residents displayed their finest produce in the flower and vegetable show.
The only event hit by bad weather, the children’s pavement art competition, was moved to Matthews Hall.

Other children’s events included a flower competition, coin trail, and special entertainment hour.

Evening entertainment included Morris dancing and the Topsham Pub-a-thon – a series of games played in pubs across the town – attended by new neighbourhood beat manager PC Ian Jeffrey who said it was a good way to meet the community.

The final day featured a procession, led by town crier John Reid, to the Globe Hotel where a town crier contest was held.

Hundreds of people lined the streets for the long-awaited highlight of the week, the carnival procession featuring 30 entries, including revamped town float Nautical Fantasy.

Mystical Pegasus, the South Brent community float, stole the show, winning the award for best float and most original float.

The weekend ended as it began with live music outside Matthews Hall from the Soul Agents.

Organiser Kevin Hack said: “The week went extremely well.

“People have given us feedback saying it was the best carnival ever.

“There were lots of local floats entered which is what we have been pushing for for the past few years.

“I’m relieved it’s over.

“I can rest for a few days now before thinking about next year.”
