BUDLEIGH Salterton and beyond turned out in force to the town’s late night Christmas shopping evening.

A whole host of traditional street entertainment kicked-off with a Christmas parade, where the town’s carnival float and an appearance by Father Christmas kept the younger visitors spellbound.

Youngsters from St Peter’s School and Drakes School dressed in silver and gold to carry torches and lanterns through the town.

Live music and traditional carols brought the town alive and performances from the Exeter Morris Men, Exmouth Town Band and Devon Diamonds guaranteed the night went with a swing.

And Budleigh Salterton Chamber of Commerce member Anthony’s Catering cooked up hot burgers and bangers to warm the hands and stomachs of many.

Chamber of Commerce spokeswoman Pauline Swannell said trade had been brisk and the town’s tills had been ringing late into the evening.

“The traders said it was a good night and people seemed to enjoy themselves. I would like to thank everyone who took part and came along,” she said.
