It is a great loss to the town centre to see the closure of so many quality shops over the last six months: Millets, Stead & Simpson, Julian Graves, Stokes, Lakes, Urban Republic, the pet shop on Exeter Road - and that is without the presence of a large supermarket!
As for “Exmouth’s Best Kept Secret”- Exeter Road, yet another charity shop has opened there making a total of 14 in Exmouth alongside the numerous second-hand shops.
To add to the mass of takeaways, cafés and fast food outlets, I see another fish‘n’chip shop has opened up on The Strand. (Just what the town needs!)
As for that great monstrosity that has obliterated the lovely view of the seafront as you drive down Carlton Hill and sit in the Gunfield Gardens, the deafening noise from the bowling alley whilst sitting in the café makes me just walk straight out again.
Exmouth used to be a lovely place - The Strand Gardens with all the trees and flowers and a good variety of shops. All gone, now just a glaring big white concrete space; some regeneration!
I am seriously considering going to live in Spain where one can buy a stunning property for the price of a modest semi-detached bungalow and council tax is only €70 per year.
