It has been suggested that the grassed area adjacent to the Matthews Hall in Topsham should be come a dog-free zone.
I cannot think of any logical reason for this.
It is not a designated play area, nor is there any play equipment thereon.
There are three play areas in the vicinity if people feel strongly about their children being in close proximity to dogs.
I regard this area in the middle of the town to be a relaxing place to sit for individuals and families with their dogs, where they can also enjoy food and drink if they so choose.
The annual dog show was held there with responsible people attending, including the mayor and a dog warden.
I did not witness any problems at this well-attended event, which was enjoyed by many locals and visitors.
As for the suggestion that dogs should be tethered outside the park, apart from their owners, this seems to be a totally irresponsible idea.
I do hope this proposal will be laid to rest.
It is, after all, a PUBLIC amenity.
